A Mad Girl's Love Song

A Mad Girl's Love Song

A series inspired from the connection of artists and mental illnesses. This is the story of an artist struggling with bipolar disorder and depression, which complicates her love life. The project was produced in the style of film stills; there was a script of actions and emotions for the models to embody.

Team Credits:

Models: Priscilla Ullmann Richter and Lucas Tapioca
Hair and Make-up Artist: Luiz de Luca
Styling: Priscilla Ullmann Richter and Natalie Barbosa
Production Assistance: Nozes Produções
Location: An apartment in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

This photo series takes a look at the personality of the dancer, outside of a theater, with less attention to perfection. The movements captured are when the dancer is sometimes in a resting position, or when she has paused for a breath during a transition to another movement. She is still very elegant in her movements but is dancing for herself, inside her own world.

Cris and André: Cherish the Dress

Cris and André: Cherish the Dress

This day was perfect weather for this shoot. I suggested we started early in the morning (6am!), so that we could take advantage of the beautiful pink sky at sunrise and not have to worry about many people standing in the background. Cris and Andre were completely fine with the early start, which was great!

The sky was a bit cloudy and we didn't have to worry about harsh direct sun until the end of the shoot. Those clouds worked really well as a huge diffuser for the sun. We started at the Lapa arches, and then went up to Santa Teresa. Santa Teresa, has some similarities to Salvador's Pelourinho, with all of the cute colonial styled houses.

Núria and José: E-Session in Pelourinho

These two are such a sweet couple and so happily in love. During our planning, they had mentioned that they were both very shy in front of thee camera. However, on the day of the shoot, they seemed to relax and have fun! They were trying out all of my ideas and I didn't see any of the shyness they were referring to.

Siribinha, Bahia: Beauty in Simplicity

Siribinha, Bahia: Beauty in Simplicity

The end of the year always gets us reflecting on our past year, the changes that may have occurred, what we are thankful for and how we would like to start off the New Year. This is also the time of year where we are frantically trying to find the perfect gifts for our loved ones, and many of us are not forgetting those less fortunate, that are in need of our help. These sorts of thoughts are what made me reminiscent of Siribinha, a small town that I visited in Bahia.

São Paulo, Brazil: In an Alternative Perspective

São Paulo, Brazil: In an Alternative Perspective

This past long weekend I went to São Paulo, Brazil. I've heard many things about this city and I wasn't really sure what to expect. To Brazil, São Paulo is kind of like NYC to the US. There is even a huge park (Ibirapuera Park) in the middle of the city! When moving to Brazil, I was told that the place to be was in São Paulo. I was told the city was huge, full of concrete and all about business. I suppose some of that is true. These things I had heard, really put me off from living there.

Jessica: On Location in Salvador

Jessica: On Location in Salvador

Let me start out by saying, how fun this shoot was.  I have known Jessica for a few years now and I thought that a Punk/Rock look would suite her for this shoot.  So with that theme in mind we raided her closet and her moms, for some outfits made-to-order.
